Hidetaka Kai

A seasoned Chief Executive, Tak-san holds a consummate record of leading Japanese businesses worldwide through various economic environments. As he oversees ConfluCore’s Japanese operations, his distinguished experience is cherished by Boards and CEOs in developing successful strategies, leveraging meaningful technologies, and accomplishing sustained transformations.

Tak-san’s impacts over 30 years measures in Billions, spans 3 continents and 10 industries through providing advice to boards, consulting to C-levels, directing training, and implementing change strategies. Some of his clients and companies include Apple Computer, AXA Life Insurance, Fuji Xerox, Hitachi, Meiji Milk, Nihon Unisys, NKK, NTT Group, Sun Microsystems, and Yamaha. With P/L responsibilities in several of these, he has been vice chairman in and CEO/COO or CTO of 3 of these companies. Tak-san prides in keeping people as the benefactors of all change, channelizing their energies productively to achieve the next levels.

With increasing responsibilities, Tak-san has led from 100 to 10,000 employees, often doubling company sizes in Japan and abroad. His successes in business development and 3 international M&A’s are exemplary. Starting his consulting career at Arthir D. Little, he rose to partner-director in Japan, producing one-third of its revenues. He subsequently collaborated with BCG on the Japanese top-25 corporate consortium, Advisory Committee for Enterprise Transformation (“ACTion”). He is passionate about Digital Transformation, been invited to speak on the topic in several countries, and has written several books and numerous articles on this corporate imperative.

Tak-san earned his bachelor’s in joint mechanical-medical engineering from Waseda University. He pursued joint Master’s degrees from MIT’s Center for Advanced Engineering Studies and Sloan School of Management, focusing on Innovation and Marketing. He is a ranking member of several international consortia including The Internet Association, and Future Value-Driven Enterprise. He lives with his wife in Japan and the U.S.A.


Why did you decide to work at Conflucore?

Here I have some of the most accomplished professional colleagues with absolutely outstanding careers who stimulate each other with high energies, fresh initiatives, and teamwork. Not surprisingly, ConfluCore’s innovations are advanced and fresh. And, we live by high values.

What is the biggest transformation you have been a part of?

I am a successful transformation careerist. One of my biggest contributions has been transforming the document services business at Fuji Xerox, growing it from USD 600 million to USD 1.2 billion (today, it is over $2 billion).

What challenges do you most enjoy helping clients address?

Helping executives overcome fear of change and status-quo inclination, I work closely with them to create new ways of doing business and adopting new technological solutions that ensure that their people and culture are the benefactors, and never compromised.

What do you like doing in free/personal time?

My wife and I love golfing and enjoy traveling, so we have made friends in many places around the world. We also like to watch soccer matches. And, we listen to jazz music live in New York and Tokyo.
